    Default energy consumption

    Hello all,

Last week me and a few friends were discussing the enery use of our tanks.
When it cames to lighting, some said that a dimmed TL5 light consumes the same amount of electricity as one that is 100% on. Where others say that the energy consumption is much lower when the light bars have been dimmed.
What is the truth, when using 2 double GHL profilux lightbars of 2x 80watt each, separately dimmable and a Profilux Plus II?

I am pretty curious to find out!

    Best Regards,
    Joost

    Default

the energy consumption falls with the brightness

this relation is not completely linear because the efficiency falls slightly with the output power

    approx. this can be assumed:
    - 100% light needs 100% energy (80W / efficiency of 98% = approx. 82W)
    - 50% light needs 53% energy
