usb to serial driver not working

I purchased the following usb to serial cable in the link.

1) I did NOT use the driver disk it came with instead i used your driver "Driver for PLM-USB, Windows 2000/XP/Vista®"

2) driver has error Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port (COM3) failed

3) ? is there a specific brand i need to use

4) ? should i use the driver that came with the cable
