I am running the ATO system as per the post and then went and slightly modified it so as to put in sea water when the salinity drops and put in fresh water when the salinity is too high. Only catch with this is I check the calibration of my salinity probe weekly against a know sample which I measured directly after calibration. If it is out I then clean and recalibrate if I have to. (Although not at the moment as I am in China)
