This display will have the same dimensions like the ProfiLux II display and will also be blue/white. But now it is a graphical display, we can print icons, buttons, etc.

In my opinion it makes no sense to have a full color graphic display in front of the PIII, because:
    - The main unit should still have a reasonable price
    - The display area is too small for a color display
    - We wanted to keep it compatible to the PII system for our existing customers

    BUT:
There will be a full color display with touch screen available - ProfiLux View III !!!
This can be connected to the PAB, all settings can be done on the main unit itself or alternatively on View III.
With this design we keep the initial costs for a ProfiLux III system low, but if you want you can add a graphic color display with touch to the system (maybe later).

The main unit will work alone (without ProfiLux View III).

    Hello,

I have a question in the german thread I found this :

    product comparison between P2 / P3
    ROM 128 kB / 1 MB
    RAM 8k / >1 MB (jetzt FRAM + DRAM)
    Takt 24 MHz / 100 MHz
    Bus 16 Bit / 32 Bit

if you have a p2 and you buy an upgrade kit does it include the faster cpu / ram etc...
or is it only hardware support ( pab , etc... ) but the upgrade P2 will still be slower dan then a P3 ( non upgraded ? )

The upgrade kit does it include the frontpcb of the PL III also. (Wont work other way because the Grafikdisplay and the cpu/ram are on the same PCB. Just remove the PLII front, insert the new PL III front, mount the PAB Modul and the LAN/USB Module and you made a PLIII out of a PLII. (Not exactly that simple but thats it)

    I have a quick question,

Im assuming the move to USB has a lot to do with the fact many new PC's and laptops no longer come standard with an RS232 port. I think this is a great idea, but how have you handled the problem of potential firmware update failures through the USB interface?

Can you still use the onboard serial interface for firmware recovery?

    Yes you can.
The PCB on the back with the L-Ports, S-Ports, RS232 an so on will stay in place and will be functional like it is today in PLPII. Only one module will be permanent used by PLM-USB/Lan.

If it works the same way as the existing USB card too then it is no different to using a USB to serial (RS232) adaptor.

Obviously the network side of things is different.

The PLM-USB/Lan will come automatically with the upgrade Kit or will be build in on an new ProfiLux3. It is a essential part of PL3. The plastics on the backside of the PL3 will cover the first module and has only spaces for this PLM-USB/Lan. The electronic part of PLM-USB/Lan will be nearly the same like the PLM-USB but the Lan part is new.
Sure you can use your adapter also but you will get the USB direct on PL3.
