    XP, Vista or W7?

What have you tried thus far "driver" wise?

Its a long shot but I'd try:

Look for an updated BIOS for your laptop and get that done first
    Drivers Download by Dell

then try the Dell Community Website

I'd still update my BIOS to the latest and greatest regardless of the outcome. It's the same as keeping your FW up to date... very much the same.

Keep us posted and good luck

i have just done a system restore from 10 days ago and its still teh same, on the up side i no longer need to find 4.07 lol

the device manager still has the 2 ? so im lost as to what that is causing that, i may be able to try another laptop but that will take me a week as teh only other laptop i have is a work one that is locked down with admin restrictions

i have also done another com scan using connection settings in ghl and it doesnt find anything despite there being com 1 in device manager

    thanks for your help

we had some USB-problems especially with DELL notebooks in the past, the problems occured suddenly, nobody knew the exact time and why it happened
I guess this was a driver or software update

maybe it helps to unplug USB, power-cycle the ProfiLux
if not - change the COM-Nr in the device manager (and in ProfiLuxControl accordingly)

I've read several instances of "similar" models of Dell (d630 I believe) to have issues with Serial/Com and many times the latest BIOS resolved the issue. It may or may NOT work but it's so easy to update the BIOS I do it on every system I work on (and that's a LOT).
