PLM-WiFiLAN card with NTP / NTP sync not observed, unexpected +3hrs time jumps
Greetings,
I've finally received my RJ-45 LAN card in the last week of July & installed the same week.
Prerequisites were met:
- new GCC software downloaded
- new FW flashed into ProfiLux 4e
In the past two years I've been adjusting my ProfiLux 4e time manually.
Usually observed the PL4e drifted out of sync by just a couple of minutes per year.
The NTP time sync feature in GCC doesn't seem to expose any control over which NTP server and/or NTP pool the PL4e will connect to.
There's just a drop-down list with NTP option for Automatic setting of time.
I conducted some testing of this NTP setting.
Manually adjusted PL4e time backwards by -3 minutes.
Checked back in one week, only to find out the PL4e is still ticking -3 mins behind the world clock.
Checked back in two weeks, found out the PL4e is still ticking -3 mins behind the world clock.
At that point reconsidered LAN settings:
- what if the 100 Mbps Ethernet NIC adapter + the PL4e network stack doesn't understand really well to my DHCP server
Switched PL4e LAN configuration from DHCP to static IP config.
Just to make sure the IP,subnet,GW,DNS settings are configured properly in the PL4e.
Checked back in one week, nothing has changed, the PL4e is still ticking -3 mins behind the world clock. Until today..
I would like to ask fellow PLM-WiFiLAN users for help:
Has anyone installed their RJ-45 LAN card into their PL4 ... and faced a similar issue with NTP time sync possibly not happening over Ethernet LAN.
I'd be really grateful if they could share how they were possibly able to make the NTP time sync working, in case they managed to resolve that issue.
Thanks for any comments and/or insights.
-------------------
From when I installed the RJ-45 LAN card into my PL4e, three months ago,
I started to encounter yet another sort of time glitch with a very sporadic occurrences.
I had already two occurrences of PL4e time-jumping forward by +3 hours just overnight.
In the evening the PL4e executes sunset in between 19:30 - 20:00
At 20:00 the fish tank is completely dark, 0% illumination.
Then in the morning the PL4e should execute sunrise in between 8:30 - 9:00
Since the end of July, on two random days, the PL4e started executing sunrise already from 5:30 in the morning.
Each time this happened I checked PL4e internal time, it was showing 8:30 (+3 hrs)
Now, the PL4e is disconnected from local LAN & public internet during the night (the LAN switch is off).
- this +3 hrs time jump happens sometime between 20:00 - 5:00
- it looks very unlikely the PL4e could be hacked from the outside (public internet) during the night
Has anyone experienced similar multi-hour time jumps in their PL4
since they installed the RJ-45 LAN card & possibly configured NTP time sync?
Thanks
