Conductivity probe to monitor salinity?

Does any one else experience a problem with the conductivity probe.

I recently learnt that it will not show a true salinity value as it is testing the conductivity of all dissolved elements.

The curve ball was that the reference solution will calibrate the probe but if you compare that number to salt water the numbers are out.

Is this true?
