Optical sensor position

Can I use the sensor vertical? I know it's recommended horizently , but why not vertical, I need it to top a fresh water tank.

It´s explicit not recommended.

but why not vertical,

Due it may cause wrong measurement like

• false on by a hanging drop on the tip.
• false on by deposits after evaporation of hanging drops on the tip
• false off by deposits after evaporation of hanging drops on the tip -> this may cause an owerflow of your tank

I need it to top a fresh water tank

There is no need to mount the sensor in a vertical position for that.
