Firmware Flash Problem Profilux PlusII

Hi,
I'm having difficulties with an old, but previously working, Profilus PlusII.
I am trying to use the Flash Firmware Programmer, however each time I get a timeout error.
I am using a correctly configured RS232/USB converter lead, I have no other means of connection to the computer. This connection has worked before.
Only COM1 is available, all other COM ports are unable to be opened.
Any advice welcomed.
