Normally you need a router to connect the PL to any other LAN device like your PC. To help you, please describe your environment a little more in detail
When you connect a LAN cable to the ProfiLux 3 for the first time, you should connect via USB and go to the system settings page. At the bottom of that page, there is a section that says Current IP address. What is written there is the IP address of your ProfiLux. that is assuming you still have it's LAN settings still set to automatically have an IP address assigned.
1. Write down this IP address and disconnect from the USB ProfiLux connection.
2. Create a new connection in GHL Control Center by clicking on Administrator on the upper left side of the screen
3. Click New and select the ProfiLux 3
4. Name this connection
5. Set the type of connection to Network (TCP/IP)
6. Check or uncheck the Search automatically box
a. If you set this connection to Search automatically, you do not need to type in the IP address of the controller.
b. If you uncheck the box, you will have to type in the IP address of the ProfiLux.
7. Click Save.
Once completed, select this new connection and connect.
thanks vinny is there a way to do it without the usb as i lost my usb cable i might just have to go out and get one.. also if i don't have my lan settings still set to automatically have an ip address assigned how would i find the ip? thanks again!
You will need the USB cable to see what IP address was assigned to the controller and make changes to the LAN settings if necessary.
If it is not assigned to automatically have an IP address assigned, then you would have to assign one for your controller. To keep things simple, make sure it is set to automatic, save settings, restart the controller, and connect via USB to see what IP address was assigned to your P3.
thanks vinny i got the usb however it says that my profilux III firmware is too old to work with my GCC.. how do i update it?
What is your current firmware version?
5.14
That firmware version is not supported by GCC. Please use ProfiLux Control found here:
https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/dow...trol-v6-0-6-1/
Once downloaded, connect via USB and go to the system settings page to see what IP address was assigned to your controller.
i got my ip address however
after creating a new connection in PC with my IP address it said the firmware is too low to connect.
after creating a new connection in GCC with my IP it says "could not connect, do you want to check settings now?"
will i get to use GCC once updated or will i have to stick with PC? what's the difference between the two?
GCC offers more features not available in ProfiLux Control. If you update to the newest firmware you will be able to use GCC and benefit from the latest features.
To jump from your current FW to the newest FW, please follow these instructions:
https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/dow...-instructions/
Please download this also:
https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/dow...cy-flash-tool/
Please make sure to follow the instructions for the correct model ProfiLux 3; P3 or P3.1
Due to the large jump in FW, your settings will not carry over.
i connected the rs232 cable to my computer and under COM and LPT in the device manager it just says "prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4)" with a exclamation mark and i updated it. it doesn't say "USB Serial Port" like it's suppose to
i went into its properties and under general it says
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Not Enough Quota}
Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation"
also where is this hex file? "ProfiLux3_“ and ends with „.mhx“, e.g.
ProfiLux3_V515_GER_ENG.mhx"
it's not in the FR folder? thanks
That issue is not related to GHL, it is a related to your PC.
The .mhx file is the firmware file which is located in the firmware folder inside the GHL Control Center folder.
The Code 10 error relates to the USB/RS232 driver belonging to your adapter. You may need to find a compatible version with your windows OS or update to the newest driver version.
my GHL Control Center folder only contains:
(Folder) GHL Control Center
(Folder) Tools --> Flasher shortcut
GHL Control Center shortcut
Unistall GHL Control Center shortcut
i searched my computer for .mhx and it's not found on my computer
I have the GCC and PC programs installed and also downloaded the FR folder
If you download any of the newer versions of GCC, the firmware file will be included in the download.
Go to:
(C: ) -> Program Files (x86) -> GHLControlCenter_V108x -> Firmware -> ProfiLux 3
Firmware files will be there.
thanks so i got everything working now but i get stuck on the flash programmer after i click full operation it says "please push reset button on user board" then i plug my profilux back in then it doesn't download or do anything it just stays on that screen. environment is 4 and double checked that my rs232 port is the same port 4 environment on my device manager. Target microcontroller is MB91F467D and Crystal Frequency is 4mhz
the profilux interface controller just boots up normally after i re-plug it in during the "please push reset button on user board" screen. it doesn't go into a downloading screen or anything
okay so i restarted my computer and tried it again but it now says "ERROR!! No.001 Download error" at 3/7 of the download
Make sure that your are selecting the correct COM number which is where the ProfiLux is located.
When the push reset button message pops up:
- If you have a ProfiLux 3, quickly disconnect the power to the controller and plug it back in. The download will then start.
- If you have a ProfiLux 3.1, press the reset key on the ProfiLux board. The download will then start.

during this time i unplug the power to my profilux then plug it back in. also tried leaving the plug out prior to the reset message then plugging it back in during the reset message but still get this error message (Profilux 3)

i feel like i'm so close lol!
hey vinny just wondering if you're looking into this as i was hoping to get it working by the weekend thanks!
Hello John,
your PL3 seems not to enter bootloader mode.
it is necessary, that the power is stabilized. So, try using a switch plug with on-off-switch.
thanks matthias my PL3 does enter bootloader mode. when i take the power off then back on during the reset message the PL3 screen blacks out which i'm assuming is the bootloader mode? however i still get the error 001 message and nothing happens. also i just tried the switch plug but it's the same result
I think this all way too complicated and far off what the original goal was - a simple firmware updte from 5.xx to 6.xx.
Let us do it step by step and forget the other 22 posts here.
first question: is ProfiLux still staring normal and the firmware 5.17 is still present or a re we already at a point where the firmware has been killed?
thanks for helping me matthias. yes the profilux still starts with the firmware 5.14
OK, the connect with PROFILUXCONTROL, start the update process, but then select the newset firmware 6.29
hopefully this update will work, after reboot you have 6.29, then connect with GCC
when i click the connect button in the Profilux Control program it says "the connected profilux has a too low firmware version and can't be used with this version of profilux control" this is version 6
version 5 says "communication error! Code 28
No I don't understand anything.
Didn't you say in a previous post your ProfiLux has firmware 5.14 and you were able in the past to connect with ProfiLuxControl?
I don't know where here are all the misunderstandings, but to connect a ProfiLux with the matching PC software and to perform an update is usually not that kind of adventure.
I think if we not make any progress here very soon you should send us the ProfiLux for updating, I fear all this leads to nothing.
i never said i was able to connect to ProfiluxControl that's the problem here was that i COULDN'T connect to ProfiluxControl. This entire time vinny was trying to help me update my profilux outside of ProfiluxControl since it doesn't work with my old firmware. Like i said every time i try to connect to ProfiluxControl it says my firmware is too old. There shouldn't be any misunderstanding if you have read the previous 2 pages you would have seen that this entire time vinny was trying to update my profilux outside of ProfiluxControl. he advised me to use the emergency firmware update process using the RS232 cable and the Flash (FR) program but that didn't work as it all came down to this "Error No.001" message during the middle of the update found here http://forum.aquariumcomputer.com/at...0&d=1476291911 which was where we were stomped and quite honestly which is why i thought after of all this you came here to try and fix. i followed every single step that vinny told me to do and i even provided pictures to prevent any confusion. all you did was tell me to connect to ProfiluxControl and update it which was step 1 of vinny's instructions when that didn't work you got all confused already lol i probably will have to ship my profilux all the way from Canada at this rate thanks for trying though.
You need not to ship the ProfiLux to Germany for an update. We have retailers in Canada who are capable to do this, like Derek's Reef Shop, or you send it to GHL USA in Florida.
However, after reading all again I think I found the issue - Vinny gave you the link to PLC 6 - but you need PLC 5! This should explain it.
https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/dow...trol-v5-1-7-2/
please try, again
thanks this worked to connect my profilux to profilux control however when i click on File --> Firmware - Update Profilux then select the ProfiLux3_V629.mhx file the update begins but then at 99% this happens
Attachment 8586
did you confirm the update process on the device itself? select yes and press return?
the device itself doesn't ask for a update confirmation it just stays in its normal screen
if this helps after i click ok on the error 41 message box this message box then pops up
