ION Director Issue: High Reagent Consumption, Inconsistent Results & MUI Error
Hello everyone, @GHL
Over the years, I have used almost every GHL product with zero complaints. Even when facing complex software or minor hiccups, GHL support and firmware updates have always been solid.
Despite hearing negative feedback and complaints regarding the ION Director, I decided to go ahead and purchase one. However, I’ve encountered several major issues:
High Reagents Consumption: Every test consumes 50 ml of both Reference A and Reference B liquids. A standard 500 ml bottle lasts for only 10 tests.
Inconsistent Test Results: Every consecutive test yields completely different readings.
MUI / Red Light Errors: After roughly 5 tests, GHL Control Center (GCC) displays a red error light for the MUI sensor.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
- Followed all official GHL troubleshooting guides (checked tube connections, line lengths, and verified all settings).
Replaced all fluid lines with new PVC tubing to eliminate air leaks (though I still noticed air bubbles in the waste line despite tight connections).
Opened the casing and discovered badly tangled internal tubing (see attached photos). I carefully untangled and rerouted them.
Updated firmware, performed full resets, recalibrated, installed a brand-new MUI sensor, and opened new Reference A & B bottles.
Current Situation:Despite replacing the tubing, changing the MUI sensor, and using fresh 3-liter reference solutions, every single test continues to drain 50 ml of each reagent, followed by an immediate MUI red light error and invalid results.
Being located in Egypt, RMA services and physical support returns to Germany or the US are practically impossible for me. I’ve invested heavily in extra sensors and liters of reference fluids, but the unit is still unusable.
Has anyone in the community experienced this exact issue, or can GHL support advise on what internal component or firmware state could be causing this persistent drain and MUI fault?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
