Hello,

I was interested in purchasing LB3 for my reef tank.
However the power seems to be not enough for a reef tank.
Indeed my tank is 2500 liters. Theoritical needs is around 2000w of lights according to generally accepted principles - and also according to the scale mentionned on the GHL website.
The tank is 2m40 x 1m30, but max width available is 90cm due to reinforcements.
The model 100 is the max I can use (75w). If I want to reach 2000w, then I need 27 items, which is not possible even without any free space between the items. And I will lose a lot of efficiency as I have also some transversal reinforcements.
What do you think?
I don't understand how to bridge my need and the little power of the LB3.

The scale we provide is there to only give you a starting basis for sizing a LB3 configuration and should not be taken as a definitive answer. Depending on the coral type, stocking density, placement of corals, number of rocks and rock layout should all be taken into account when choosing how many LB3 you may want. Of course, then you have the limitations of the tank dimensions itself.

In your case, because you have 240cm of length to work with, you should be able to fit 2x LB3 in the 120cm size to reach the length of the tank. Two LB3 120 side by side will cover about 226cm of length. If you have 8 rows of these, you can achieve 1,478W of power (16x LB3 120 @ 92.4W each) which will more than likely be enough for your coral. Afterall, you may or may not even need this much power, it really depends on your specific situation and the variables mentioned earlier. The LB3 do pack a nice punch with their spread and intensity. Don't get too fixated on total wattage. FWIW, other reflectors tend to require more power to direct light downwards and waste energy in doing so. Our reflectors send 95% of the light downwards which means it takes less watts to achieve the desired outcome. :)

But of course, if you insist on getting as close to 2000W as possible for the sake of having that "extra" power, you can do a combination of 6 Mitras LX7 IL (1,500W) positioned perpendicular to tank length and 2 rows of LB3 120 (369W) for a total of 1,869W. Do you need that much power? Probably not...but the extra power is there if it's an absolute must-have.
