I will be showing you how to set up a webcam for use with your profilux.

Some things you need first.

profilux control software of at least version: 5.1.6.2
Profilux firmware of at lease : 5.16
A web cam that supports mpg. Or an old android smartphone

I will be showing how to do it with an android phone, however any webcam will configure to the Profilux the same way.

First off i will be using this phone
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_091852.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_091852.jpg.html)
Its an old EVO3d that hasnt worked in a year.

On that phone i went to the good old android market and downloaded ip webcam. Its a free app that can be found here.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5wY XMud2ViY2FtIl0.

Once installed there are a few small thing to do.
First run the app.
on the bottom you will have the ip of your camera. it will look like this.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_092541.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_092541.jpg.html)

Now log into that ip with your web browser. you will see this screen.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_092836.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_092836.jpg.html)
notice under third part software support there are some links.
this is the one we want
URL for MJPG-compatible software: http://192.168.0.3:8080/videofeed

So that being said the ip we need is.
http://192.168.0.3/videofeed

Thats it for the phone for now.

Ok open up profiluxcontrol.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_093351.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_093351.jpg.html)

Navigate to system.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_093542.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_093542.jpg.html)

Now click on Webserver. You will have a screen that looks like this.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_093710.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_093710.jpg.html)

Put your camera ip in the space where it says webcam. mine was
192.168.0.3:8080/videofeed.
then hit save.
And as always hit load just to be safe.

You are done setting up in Profilux control.

Now lets have a look at the web interface and see how we did.

Open a browser window and type in your profilux ip

And you will be greeted with the new web log on. Like so

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_094133.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_094133.jpg.html)

Enter you login info. Admin or Guest will work.

Once in you will have the web interface. Love the new setup by the way.

You should be on the system tab. It should look like this.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_095012.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_095012.jpg.html)

Now just scroll down to see your tank. like this. (sorry for the dirty glass. I was just excited that this works)

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm270/akindbro4u/20130627_095236.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/akindbro4u/media/20130627_095236.jpg.html)

And enjoy the view. Now i can check on my tank from anywhere in the world. How cool that.

If you have a few ip cams how do you select which one to use?

akindbro4u

The profilux can only be configured fir one camera. Its a software limitation.

Thanks for the tutorial. It looks very easy to set up using an Android phone.

I have my aquarium on a DLink DCS 930L ip camera. I can view the camera from the mydlink page, however if I enter the IP address in Profilux Control as either: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/video.cgi or http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/video/mjpg.cgi the camera does not show up (only an empty box). Any suggestions?

Also, I hope to see the web cam incorporated into the app soon!

For D-Link you could try others aswell:

DSC-932L MJPEG http://IPADDRESS/mjpeg.cgi?user=[USERNAME]&password=[PASSWORD]&channel=[CHANNEL]
DSC-932L MJPEG http://IPADDRESS/video.cgi?resolution=VGA
DSC-932L MJPEG http://IPADDRESS/mjpeg.cgi
DSC-932L MJPEG http://IPADDRESS/VIDEO.CGI
DSC-933L MJPEG http://IPADDRESS/video/mjpg.cgi

With my D-LINK 2132L it worked the following way.

Create new user account for Profilux in the webinterface of the camera http://IPFROMCAM/maintenance.htm
User for login should be admin and the password the one you've set on first setup.

New User for example Profilux, Password 3333

Now add Webserver:

http://Profilux:3333@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80/video/mjpg.cgi

Note, only working in Chrome, Firefox and Opera V15.
Not working with IE10 or older versions of Opera.

Hi, can anyone recommend a webcam that will work with the P3. I know it needs to support mpg but being a person with very little IT knowledge I will not be able to find out myself. I have a Logitech webcam but I don't think it will work.

Help appreciated

IE doesn't support mjpeg, you have to use another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, ...).

hello,

we don't have a recomendation, the webcam just have to support the MJPEG format as a stream.
Some users use: D-Link DCS-2230, D-Link DCS-942L, LinkSys WVC54GCA, Edimax IC-7000PTn V2

Artur

It looks like Foscam HD have MJPEG stream, take a look here:
http://foscam.us/forum/how-to-fetch-snapshots-and-mjpeg-stream-on-hd-cameras-t4328.html

For the ProfiLux you use this address: http://ip address:port/cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?usr=admin&pwd=&cmd=setSubStreamFormat&format=1
