View Full Version : Trying to understand Email Notifications (with Screen shot)

So I'm trying to set up emails for alarms. A quick google search I did for ATT Uverse returned results that showed 465 as the port to use. Does everything else look like it's set up correctly? When i hit the test button, it glows blue for a minute or so and then stops. It also grabs the current smtp info at this time. Nothing else happens. What should happen here?

Also, can the notifications be specific? In other words, if it's a level alarm can it tell me that specifically? Or do i just get notified that there is an alarm and then i have to access the profilux remotely to figure out what's going on?

Thanks!

Your setting looks correct in general. However, port 465 is a port which normally is used for SSL encrypted mail transfer. The PL3 doesn´t support that. So you have to switch off SSL encryption or use another mail provider.

Oh ok. What about gmail? Does anyone know which port for that one?

What about gmail?

Unfortunately gmail also doesn´t work ....

Lol great. Does ANY common USA email service work with this thing?

Thank you.
The weird thing is that ATT uses Yahoo for their mail service. I gather regular yahoo mail is different?
And if the Profilux doesn't support SSL, why is there the check box for mailserver authentification?

Cause authentification is different to encryption (which SSL means)

Got it. Thank you.

Can anyone give me the correct settings for Yahoo? I'm still not getting anything but the blue test button.

smtp.mail.yahoo.com and on port 25.

Hmmmm.... something must still be wrong. I'm still not getting anything when hitting the test button. See anything wrong here? Is there anything else I need to be doing/setting up?

Only thing I can see is that the recipient still shows as d2mini@att.net and the email notification window shown here also shows d2mini@att.net.
Try deleting this line and starting again with the corrected info showing above!

Thanks for the reply! So i can't send TO my at&t account either?

Sorry, Don't know about them, just was looking at your info that displayed on your image and it displayed as described.

If you were trying to set up a new item for Yahoo! Then I do believe you need to save first, before you can test!!
Once saved it should show as a line item below the ATT line!

I think we are misunderstanding each other.

MY understanding so far is that the profilux won't play nice with certain email providers, which I was assuming has to do with SENDING the email. But I don't see why it would matter who is RECEIVING the email, in this case my att address. Am I not understanding this correctly?

And yes, I saved before testing.
Where should there be a "line item"???

Yes you are quite correct, sorry did not have thinking cap on!

Ok possible suggestions that may or may not work!
Make the username the full email address (i.e. d_desilva@yahoo.com). This is what I use!
Try port 2525, some use this instead of the standard port 25!
No guarantees though.

I found this link guiding you on setting up email for outlook. (Similar as just SMTP)
help.yahoo.com (http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_MAIL_ML&locale=en_US&id=SLN4737&impressions=true)

Note the ports below and they say it is SSL??
Maybe need to ring Yahoo to verify?

Select the Advanced tab:
Incoming server (POP3): Type 995
Check the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox.
Outgoing server (SMTP): Type 465
For Use the following type of encrypted connection, select SSL.

I used to have mine set up exactly as Denis' (above) but now it's stopped working. I moved, and set up my router for the new house's internet, but I can't understand why it isn't working.
I have yahoo and basically the same settings. I can access my profilux remotely, so I know there's connectivity. The only thing I can think of is some set up that's blocking it from reaching out and getting to the SMTP server.
Any ideas?

And just like that, it's fixed! Switched to port 587!

d2mini
26.12.2012, 03:20
THANK YOU!

That was it... the port number. 587 worked.

Ok, so now how to I set up specific notifications.... like "level alarm" or "temp alarm".
What are the "digital input" choices linked to in the drop down menu?

samyueru
26.12.2012, 03:38
No prob Denis (btw it's Parrotchute from LR)
For the longest time port 25 worked, they must have changed it...

I have it set up so twice a day I get a email (which I have forwarded to my cell phone # so I get a text) that says the different sensor readings.

basically you use "tokens" which reference certain sensor settings.

If you create a message with the mailing condition of alarm and then cyclic of every 20min or so, then make the message
$$ALMS$$
$$senv[2]$$ (that's my temp sensor)

It will send me a message when there's an alarm and what the temp is.

Digital inputs activates, I think, when you activate one of the digital inputs under system --> digital input of the control page.

samyueru

oh, list of tokens is here, btw:

Cool, thanks!

What is the "cyclic" doing?

I just want to get an email the minute an alarm is triggered. I don't think I really need daily updates of system parameters since I'm rarely gone more than a normal work day.

Gunther

What is the "cyclic" doing?

It sends you a mail in a cyclic intervall - 1 hour - 2 hours ... whatever you define

I just want to get an email the minute an alarm is triggered.

Then you should use "Alarm"

does anyone have code to email you your current state of all sensors? I cna only find code for specific sensors

JasonK
26.03.2013, 01:07
Depending on the number of sensors you have, wouldnt it just be something like: (for 4 sensors)

$$REPS[4][00]$$
$$SENC[x]$$
$$REPE$$

aqua_digital
26.03.2013, 01:08
got it working by repeating

$$SENC[n]$$

but only shows 3 out of the 4 sensors, will give your version a go

aqua_digital
26.03.2013, 01:09
works perfect thanks

JasonK
26.03.2013, 01:11
The numbering starts at 0 so your first sensor would be $$SENC[0]$$ coding wise its best to use the repeat loop above.

Glad its working for you.

aqua_digital
26.03.2013, 01:12
Tried that but still would only show 3 so opted for your code and it worked a charm, all 4 ;)

JasonK

If you've not seen it already the PDF for "Designing and integrating userdesigned web pages for ProfiLux 3" has all the various coding tips and lists the token's etc. However if your not familiar with programming it can sometimes be a little hit and miss.
