View Full Version : Wireless USB Adaptor
I'm about to show my "Newbie skills" here but I was wondering if it would be possible to use something like this to make the P3 wireless connection to my WLAN.
N300 Wireless USB Adapter
WNA3100

It just seems like there should be some type of USB connection that would be able to accomplish this but without knowing that much (it's obvious now I'm sure) about networking I could be totally wrong.
but I was wondering if it would be possible to use something like this to make the P3 wireless connection to my WLAN.
No, you can´t use that device. The USB connector of the PL3 is an input/slave socket. It has no power output and also no host functionallity, so the WNA3100 will do nothing.
You need an wireless access point if you want to connect the lan port of the PL to your WIFI net. I´m using the Vonets VAP11G (http://www.vonets.com/product/show_pro.asp?ID=261) which is as good as any other WIFI access point but very small and can be powerered by the power supply of the PL3

what he said just use a wifi bridge !
I'm using

and

I am using this, D-Link DAP-1522 Xtreme its a 4 port Bridge. I have Profilux and 1 camera to it now, and its all wireless. :)
Soon to have a second camera.
Simple to use, its has a switch in the back that puts it in bridge mode, does not get easier then that.
Thanks for the input. I knew it couldn't be so easy to use something I already have LOL!

That seems very simple. I may order it Monday morning. :)
I now have my D-Link DAP-1522 Xtreme 4-Port GigaBit Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point on order. It should be here one day later this week.
Thanks to all who have replied.
I got my ProfiLux set up on my LAN (it was way easy... GREAT work GHL).
Then I unpacked my DAP-1522. Unfortunately their web page (for setup) isn't designed to work perfectly with FireFox (they need to work on that) so I ended up calling tech support. Once I realized the error it took less than 5 minutes to get it set up, and once again I was able to immediately connect to my ProfiLux!
EXCELLENT work :)

Good Job !
Thanks to your support and suggestion! It's silly how easy that really could be.

yep, Its always surpising to see ppl be turned off by the ethernet port
while they want wifi => that's why they made wifi bridges =)))))
, setup is rly transparant with a good bridge

How is this accomplished? Does the VAP11G have a power IN/Out to where you plug the P3 power supply into it and then it powers out to the P3 unit?
Any chance you can post a picture of this arrangement?
Thank you in advance,
Allen
After looking at the unit closer I found the answer to my question. Here are the specs:
Specification:
1 10/100 base Ethernet cable header;
1 DC-2.0 female power port for power in;
1 DC-2.0 male power port for power out;
Input Voltage: DC5V-15V;
Consumed Power: Less than 1.5W;
Transmission Distance Indoor: 30m
So that unit does have a DC-2.0 male power port for power OUT! Makes sense now.
Does the VAP11G have a power IN/Out to where you plug the P3 power supply into it and then it powers out to the P3 unit?
Yes, the input socket is on the back side, next to the net cable (not visible on any pic). The cable plug (without the USB adapter) can be used as output and fits into the PL3 power socket.
I think it´s directly passed through the VAP11G
If you are still looking for things to use I am using one of these. Was pretty easy to setup and works well

Perfect! That's exactly what I was needing to see. Thank you.
I have just purchased a http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Server-Wireless-Peripheral-Sharing/dp/B00267K866/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1322778483&sr=1-1
and have used it to connect a seneye usb probe wirelessly through my router and then on a lap top with the belkin software installed. Works Great! and is cheap and easy!
Will I be able to use this to connect my Profilux also?
Will I be able to use this to connect my Profilux also?
Via LAN bridge: surely
Via USB maybe, if the Belkin driver supports it.
BTW: What´s the reason you ask questions always twice or three times in different parts of the forum? That´s rude, not neccessary and will other user prevent to answer.

Hi
Thanks for your quick response!
I guess I have posted a few times on some topics because I have found that I dont get much reponse from anyone on the forum and thought that if more people see the post I may get a reply.
I am not used to using forums so will respect your advice and remove my other repeat posts.
I just wish I could get a response from a moderator though as I thought that this was a customer support forum and when I spend alot of money on a system I usually expect some decent support from the company.
I Appreciate your honest advice and opinion though

Wrong thought. The people who look in often here (mostly the one with the glue) are using the "Show new posts" function. So if you post three times the same it will go like
1th post - o.k. a question, let´s think about it. But first I read the other posts .....
2th post - same user, same question .... hmmmm
3th post - same user, same question .... what a moron, not worth to answer
Beside of that: It´s not a good idea to have tree answers (maybe) speraded on three threads - this will kill an upcoming discussion. Better is to post only once and to bump up after an approbate time (1 or two days, not hours!) if there is no answer
I just wish I could get a response from a moderator though as I thought that this was a customer support forum
It is an user forum. Mods will answer if there is no change for a regular user to answer or if there is a support problem. Due you don´t have your device, it can´t be a support problem. Your prob is that you haven´t understand what you ask for yet, but you also can´t test anything. So all answers anyone will give you are completely theoretically until your computer will arrive. You will see that most things will answer itself when you install your PL, but others you never have think about will come up.
and when I spend alot of money on a system
Comments like this, even if they are repeated and/or $valued$ will result in "What a show-off, not worth an answer"
I usually expect some decent support from the company.
If there is an issue, GHL will give you the needed support. But there is none until now (see above)
Points taken!
I didnt even know you could bump something up?
but as for your opinion on moron or show off, I'm not sure that it is necessary to get personal on this thread. You can make your points with out being rude also. I presume that most people on here have a profilux system anyway so how would that be showing off?
With regards to not understanding something I did post a question over a week ago hoping a moderator could tell me if something was possible on the profilux before I purchase it but recieved no response. I guess if this is just a user forum then I just misunderstood the point of it.
I thought the point of this post was a wireless USB access anyway. We seem to have got away from that and If you wanted to you could have just PM'd me your advice with out jumping all over this thread.
I do respect your advice though and will take it into account when using the forum.

Maybe you misunderstood that: I´m not telling you my thoughts [they don´t matter here] but what a regular forum user may think if he reads your posts. This is based on experience of years in technical forums and I´m a friend of clear words.
It´s up to you to ignore my pointer, but you musn´t wonder if you get no answers then. Forum talk always is a big portion of psychology.
Like i said before, Points taken and I respect your advice and will take it into account.
I guess I just dont take things that seriously and if people dont want to respond I respect that also.
Im not sat here wondering either as I have had responses from users. I am not really bothered what people think of my posts but thanks again for the advice ;)
