5.11 Firmware and Remote Access

Hi guys,
Can you confirm that the 5.11 firmware did not break the profilux remote access through the webserver? I updated my firmware 5.10 to 5.11 last night and couldn't use the remote access. The page was working but I couldn't turn on/off any of the switches.
I had to downgrade back to 5.10.

Just tried it on mine, FW 5.11, all switches can be operated.

I'm accessing it through a PC, don't know if this makes a difference to what you are using for access or not.


Edit, I can also access it through my phone & change switches to on/off.

Yeah, it was both through my PC and my phone. I will give it another shot.

same here, I hv downgraded to 5.10 to fix the issue.

I can't change the switch status either.....Is anyone else's console page in German? The top menu tab says Console but the page itself Comes up as Konsole and all text is in German....the rest of the web server pages are in English. Regards, Andy

That's the exact problem I have. And it doesn't matter which browser I use either. Explorer, Firefox, and Safari all the same.

I am trying to update my firmware via the LAN and get a communication error 3/4 of the way. Any tips of how to overcome this. Last time when I tried via USB I got the same problem.

I have the similar problem using usb , it is best to to use the LAN for now as mentioned in earlier posts,

TO upgrade your firmware use the flasher programme and follow the instruction from the post. (YOU MUST USE THE RS232 cable to do this)

Thanks got it solved, managed to crash it first then tried to reflash but cot errors, figured out it must be the USB to RS232 convertor as mentioned on the forum. When I connected direct via com1 (direct com port) it worked like a dream.

Controller is up and running again. Thank goodness!

I have the same issues, language on the console page in the web interface is German.
No swithces work through either the web, iphone or ipad apps.

In german part of the forum we discussed about strange webserver problems also (not working files, missing functionallity). For us the following has solved the problem:


Clear the web server user files (PLC -> System -> Webserver... -> delete own files now...") after a firmware update and upload your user files again... (if you have any)

Please try that and report here if it solves your prob

Okay. Upgraded the firmware to 5.11 and clear the files on the webserver and it's now back to normal.

I'm just a little confused.

I "thought" all Firmware updates needed to be over the RS232 or RS232/USB connection and NOT over LAN. I'm sure I've missed about 999 threads which may have mentioned this but all the ones I've stumbled across thus far state "Update for ProfiLux3 not over LAN!"

Got your email Allen, thought I would reply here for everyone to see.

The LAN connection is referring to PAB only updates not Controller these still are done over RS232 or USB.

My preffered method for controller updates is using the download tool over RS232, fail safe ;)

I am actually looking at including in all kits for our sales region USB adapters that we have proven to work so everyone can use the download tool, its so much easier and quicker ;)

I think that would be a GREAT idea and possibly help to eliminate some future problems with "non-compatible" cables and adapters.

Upgrade to FW 5.11, no Web interface.
Make a reset, nothing change. Erase own files, still no web interface. In fact, could not even connect to laptop through LAN cable, only through USB cable.

Downgrade to FW 5.10, Web ok (as before the upgrade).

Upgrade again to FW 5.11, again no Web interface. But this time I could connect through LAN cable from my laptop.
Make a reset and erase own file from Web site, still no Web interface, but still able to connect to my laptop through LAN cable.

Downgrade to FW 5.10, Web ok again.

All results were regardless I was using PLC 5.1.1.2 or 5.1.0.0.

No error message through the upgrade.
Must be some kind of bug.

In the past there have been small differences between the same FW but another language. (like a bug only in DE version etc... )

The first question to clear is: I ist a general problem with the LAN-interface? Or is "only" the web interface not displayed but the direct connection with PL over LAN is working? What browser are you using?

The fisrt time I upgrade, it seemed like it was a Lan problem.
After the update, I could not communicate from my laptop with my 3ex using Lan cable. I tried through both vesrions of PLC 5.1.1.2 & 5.1.0.0 and in Internet explorer 8 by giving the ip. This was so strange that I even look at the leds in Lan exit for the first time: the green was flashing, the yellow was rock solid. So, I made a reset to factory settings, nothing changed. Then by using the USB cable (as I always do during FW updates) I downgrade and upgrade again.

This time I could connect through LAN cable with both versions of PLC but no web interface. I even check if the internal ip has changed for some reason, but of course it was the same.

Then I downgrade again and all working great.

I have a laptop dedicated to profilux with Internet Explorer 8 and since the begining I am only using this to communicate (and the dyndns when not at home).

I will give it a third shot tommorow morning and post here again.

Upgrade today for third time. This time:
I can not connect through PLC via LAN cable or through internet explorer (by giving the internal IP of the profilux 3ex).
BUT:
If I connect the LAN cable from profilux to my modem/router and the router with LAN cable to my laptop, I can connect though PLC or ie by giving the internal IP (and I can connect through the dyndns).

So, I left the FW 5.11 ..

You normally have to use a cross patch cable if you want to establish a direct connection between PC and PL3 via Ethernet port. If your PC doesn´t support autosensing, regular cable will fail. But it will work with a switch, a hub or a router

I didn't know that, but I didn't change the cable I was using to connect to my laptop.
And with the same cable if I downgrade to 5.10 I still can connect direct to me ex3.
So, it is not the cable.
Its strange, since I restore my settings after the upgrade so, it should be able to connect like before.
Anyway, the important for me is my connection through dyndns which in the third attemt to upgade to FW5.11 is working.
