Excuse me if I am asking the obvious but I have ProfiLuxPlusIIeX with firmware version 4.05.

I now have the GHL dosing pumps to set up (not independant) and I believe there are more controls over dosing with a later firmware version, which version should I upgrade to please and where is the idiots guide about how to do it, back up settings (or not as Matthias sticky not to load back V4.xx to v5.xx) etc

Or should I be asking am I wrong for not upgrading the firmware to 5.02

Thank you

Also, which should be updated first the Profilux Control or the firmware

There are no flashable firmware in the dosing pump, it is shipped with a firmware and we dont have to change it as it is controlled by the Profilux.
Once the download is back online, download this file:
http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/System__E_/Support/download.php?did=42

it will give you version 5.0P for the ProfiluxII, Profilux control can be found here:
http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/System__E_/Support/download.php?did=56

You will have to use PLC v4.xx to do the initial upgrade as the new PLC only support version 5.00 firmware code.

Thank you for the links, I know the firmware for the dosing pumps is fixed, I wanted to know if a later firmware version for the Profilux had more control over the pumps.

I also wanted to know how to upgrade,
if I will lose my settings,
if I can load the previous settings back (which I now know I cant),
and which to upgrade first firmware or Profilux control.

You will have to use PLC v4.xx to do the initial upgrade as the new PLC only support version 5.00 firmware code. Does this mean to use the existing Profilux control to do the firmware then upgrade Profilux control to latest version.

Sorry to ask so many questions, you will see I havent done this before

You want to:

Save Settings (this is your back-up just in case)
Download all files before you do anything else.

I "think" going from 4.x to 5.x you have to use the PLC software to upgrade the Firmware and then you upgrade the PLC to the latest version.

It seems kind of "daunting" the first time but once you do it you'll see it's a LOT easier to do than one might think.

Its crashed and now nothing is working. I got an error message saying the firmware couldnt read and the update was abandoned.
Now most of the menu on Profilux control is missing, only General and Email is there and I cant connect.
All the options on the File menu are greyed out.

I've not had this problem yet but others have. Take a look at the following links and see if you find something that helps

http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/Forum/showthread.php?2595-PIIEX-5.02g-Upgrade

and I think the tool is located here

Does this apply to firmware version 5.0p
Is it correct to leave everything connected to the Profilux unit whilst flashing

I wish I knew the answer but I've not ran across this problem myself. Hopefully some of the more experienced helpers will come through and lend better advice shortly.

Good luck :)

Those are my links BigAl posted above. My symptoms were different from yours, but I had everything unplugged from the Profilux II except the power cable and RS232 cable. I used the Flasher FMC16LX utility along with the 5.02g firmware. I followed the instructions in section 10.7 of http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/Download/Manual_ProfiLuxII_V406.pdf

However I would wait for the official word as your issue is quite different from mine. G'luck!

the firmware recovery procedure is always the same, the firmware version doesn't matter
just do it exactly according to the manual, this works always

Because I have started 2 threads about the same problem I put posts regarding this topic in thread

This thread should be closed. My apologies
