How to copy screenshots for posting ?

Probably a dumb ?, but how do you capture a screenshot and save it to put it in a post ? I've tried alt & print-screen together & the obvious right click on the screenshot.

Windows:
With alt + print the actual window is stored to the clipboard.
Now open paint (or a similar program, like IrfanView or so) and paste the clipboard with ctrl + v.
Then save it.
Now you are able to attach the picture to your post (see picture).

Hint:
Keep the maximal (800x600) image size in mind (resize the image, if necessary).
