Howdy

Any plans to include some form of Twitter notification to the III?
That would be a great way to keep an eye on your system.

Um I have to admit, I am a social network junky so if my tank can anything me, I want it to :)

The e-mail is still a problem as I do not have a PC at home to leave on all the time and the connection drops a lot. Hope the SMTP server is added / sorted out soon.

I'm sorry I just don't understand why on earth you would want to encrypt traffic to an aquarium computer over a secure connection? Not to mention the cost implications of doing so? What do you think the benefit of this is?

hmm there is no secure connection at the momment implmenting a certificate with https would be a securered connection (like vpn, ssh etc.). Password protecting a simple socket connection done over http is all clear, just put a sniffer!

I am of course aware there is no secure connection, this was not my question. My question was why on earth would you consider paying for and implementing this type of security feature? How many people have the know how to generate and install a certifacate signing request, of which it a huge text file that would take up the majority of memory and use significant amounts of ram to process? how many websites do you use that do not use https for forms and login? prob 95% of them... Also do you really think someone is going to sniff your traffic to alter your profilux with complex programming logic? It's possible but very unlikely? I for one would rather see developments to the functionailty of the computer without room being taken up by features such as this. There are other methods such a domain and realm authentication and VPN or indeed firewall restrictions that may be utalised in the event this is a major concern. It's an aquarium computer, not an enterprise web application. That's my opinion anyway...

hehhe ya I know Gary, where on the same page for that one I prefer to have something implemented properly. Most people that care about security have implemented their own solution. I also agree that the overhead in processing is better to be used by the controller for native functionality and stability over network security.

Yip it seems better with P but on USB it still drops out at least twice and hour.
Over TCP/IP it is useless but I have a dodge router and it is not the Profilux on this one.

Was trying to setup my unused EEE PC with the ProfiLux for my mail but alas, I thing the EEE is dead :(

I just don't like the fact that if I login on my Aquariumcomputer ( that steers an aquarium has a contents with a large amount of € in it) that my pwd goes in clear over the internet.
Therefore currently I will only use my http server as "read-only". so I will never use the admin login over the internet.
