Ok, probably a stupid question, but here goes.

I just purchased a Profilux III, and am waiting for delivery.

Basically what I want to know is...

Is it possible to just connect to a computer via a cat 5 LAN cable, and use the computer as the server (or bridge, or whatever) for the profilux III?

Basically, I want to be able to control, or at least check on my system from my iPhone, or a lap top remotely.

Or do I have to suck it up, and buy a wireless bridge?

My router is over 300 feet from the tank, and it's not moving...

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and I am NOT very savy with networking...I can get around, but that's about it.

you can connect the ProfiLux directly to the PC with a crossover cable, but then your network adaptor would be occupied by this cable and you can't connect you router at the same time
-> then better buy a cheap switch or hub and connect ProfiLux, PC and router with it

or is your PC connected wireless with your router? would mean you use 2 LAN connections (1 cable + 1 wireless)?

Yeah sorry. My PC is connected wirelessly to my router, and I want to connect the profilux to my computer via lan.

My Tank in in my living room, and I want to use my Media Center PC as my profilux's hub...

this sounds not easy - I doubt that this will work - but maybe some of our IT specialist is reading this and can jump in ...

Well if it is gonna be that hard I wil just get a wireless bridge and try my hand that way. I do not want to overcomplicate things.

Should I get one from the same brand as my router? Would that help make it less complicated?

Just get a cross over cable, set a static IP on both end (pc and P3) and your done!

the PC will be able to connect to the P3 and the Media PC will have access to the web via the wireless.

If taht sounds complicated just get a bridge :)

Really? It's as easy as that? I guess I will have to try it.

I have never heard of crossover cables. THANKS!:):)

Well I finally got my PIII yesterday, and I gotta say that did not work. I cannot even establish a connection to my computer via lan with profilux control.

connect your PIII to your XP media center PC with the cross over cable, then also ensure the PC is connected to your wireless connection (router) then go into network settings and bridge the connections.

hope this helps.

OK, I use win7 which is much different, but I will try to figure it out. Thanks.

I still cannot even get the PIII to connect to the computer via lan at all.

I set my PIII's IP address to
192.168.000.010

Here is my client list
192.168.2.3 Unknown 00:23:DF:2E:B3:D0
192.168.2.4 Christine 00:16:76:9B:5C:75

You cannot connect because the IP address is not in the same range as your other IPs. If your going to assign it I would assign it to 192.168.2.100.

PM me if you need somehelp.

OK, I may PM you. I'll be honest I have almost zero network knoweledge, and got the PIII with the hopes of learning a TON! lol

I'll try changing the IP, to what you said and see what happens.

Ok should it be 192.168.002.100, or 192.168.200.100?

I still cannot get it to connect. For some reason I keep gettign error code 50, and cannot figure out what that code means...
