P2 and P3 networking

Can P2 and P3work together as a network? In my particular case, if i upgrade my first controller to p3 and second i leave as p2 would this work?

the controllers are not compatible, they have different command sets.

i have two contrllers with dosing pumps and SMS module and a lot of "toys" hooked up to this system:) . I am thinking of upgrading to p3 and get a expansion box'
