View Full Version : Setting up AI LED modules

I downloaded the Profilux software last night to try before I receive my Profilux.

I have two modules which I would like to control/

When I select the option for the Aqua illumination units.

It asks me the number of White and Blue LEDS controlled by the illumination channel.

What number do I enter? Do I have to count the total number of separate LEDs of each colour?

I have the also the AI units and running software version 4.0.61
In the settings for the "special lamp" it says:
White LED's are controlled by illumination channel....
Blue LED's are controlled by illumination channel....

The software is actually asking for the channel number and not for the number of LED's.
Put in for the WHITE channel Nr. 5
and for the BLUE channel Nr. 6
I had to put in those channels for some reason which I don't remember exactly but I think it had to do with the 4 Tunze streams I am running and they are on Channel 1-4

Thanks for the clarification.

Still a lot to learn.

You will love the Profilux and the software to control the AI modules.
You can do so much more as with the regular controller which comes with the AI.

Now you really can play around with the times you want to have the blues or the whites at a certain percentage.
You can have cloudy, rainy days and the thunderstorm option is way cool.

Just let me know if you need help setting up.

Thanks for the offer.

So what white and blue intensities do you use?

I just upgraded the profilux last night to Version 3 hardware. I have everything else working but for some reason no matter what channels I set the AI fixture to the Profilux will not control it. Has anyone had this issue after the hardware upgrade?

Matthias

is this a new or old style AI-lamp?
Maybe the problem is that the AI protocol in the firmware is not matching the protocol of your lamp (AI changed the protocol)

is the COM-interface working at all?

Shadoww

This is the older style lamp, so it should be the same as it was before I did the P3 upgrade.

The com interfaces were working, I do not have a serial port on my laptop so I will be trying a USB to serial converter tonight. The serial cable that I purchase for the PII is the same one that should be used with the P3?

The AI lamps are just always at full brightness, they will not respond to any commands sent from the P3.

The current firmware version has been compiled for the new lamps.
This week we will have a major update, then I can compile you a special version for the older AI lamp.

Please send me an email to where I can send the special firmware.

Matthias, we require this also, we have mulitple users of the old style Ai lamp, they will require access to this firmware update also

Why not make an Option in PLC to change the Protokoll?

aqua_digital

great idea, then we have Ai old and Ai new.

I get my units next month for our product marketing build thread which we will feature here also ;)

Matthias

yes, I think this is the best solution

I wondered why when I put everything back together and programmed it that my AI fixture went to full brightness and would not go off. Everything in the tank will thank you when it can go back to normal.

I have the opposite problem shadoww was having.

I have a profilux plus ii ex and just got the new AI lights. Is there new software to control these for the plus ii ex? Mine responds the same way just full 100% and ignores settings in profilux. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have firmware 4.06

does a later version fix this?

Do I have to recalibrate all my probes (ph redox etc) if I need to do a firmware upgrade?

Matthias
07.01.2010, 08:47
for the PII firmware we will make this also selectable - in firmware 5.00

since 5.00 is a major update the old settings and calibration data will be lost

Shadoww

Any idea when you will be able to incorporate the fix for the AI fixtures? My corals are starting to look a bit sickly.

aqua_digital

its in version 5.0H and 5.05 as far as i know.

What if you own a p2?

I don't see any firmware 5.0 for p2 and can't control the new units!! Any help?when will this be fixed? Thank you.

^^^^ any help on above request? ^^^^

I contacted Aquaillumination and they said that the new modules do work on the controller, meanwhile i heard from Aquadigital that they don't work because AI changed protocols for new modules and GHL has not had time to update since the release (they were not notified in time to update).

I'm confused b/c my units don't work with my profilux plus II ex, firmware 4.06.

I don't want to upgrade to 4.08 if that will not fix the issue and then i will have to upgrade all over again in a few days when the 5.0 comes out. Can you please help me?

Do the new modules work with firmware 4.08? If not, when will a firmware be released that fixes the problem?

I have the NEW MODULES from AI, and a P2 ex.

aqua_digital

Old models work on V4.08 and ProfiLux 3 Version 5.05

New models do not as yet work on 4.08 but do work on ProfiLux 3 version 5.05

In regards to time frame when the updated version of 4.08 for profilux II users will be released I am sure quite soon, but with matthias on holiday right now it will not be this week.

ok thank you! i hope it is available soon -- the new AI controller is terrible!

it is confusing because AI told me the new unit was tested on an older model profilux controller at the factory before shipping. since the protocols have not been updated yet in any of the available firmware, clearly this must be a bit of stretching the truth on their part...

aqua_digital
17.01.2010, 15:57
I can only tell you the facts with GHL and that is new units do not work with V4.08 or lower, just as old units did not work with V5.04 profiLux 3 software.

If you look at V5.05 you will see there is now an option to select what model you have, if there was not a change in something then there would not have been this requirement. However i do not know if the change was with GHL or with Ai, I was informed it was Ai, maybe a bit of both, who knows, but which ever way the issue is getting resolved.

thanks for your help as always Michael.

any idea when the firmware update will be available to control the NEW MODULES on a P2?

Hi

Matthias only came of holiday today and it now being 9pm at night there it for sure will not be today ;)

I am sorry I have no access to GHL planed releases, this would be for Matthias to answer.

I am quite sure GHL are very aware of the need for this update though.

aqua_digital
18.01.2010, 21:02
I notice also people are asking for some set up info for GHL to Ai, maybe worth pointing them to the large video upload on you tube ;) ceterra did it a few months back.

I am trying to get the link posted on RC away from our forum once the general readers see it we should have an answer within 24 hours! :o

AI offers the ability to upgrade one module at a time. Will this work with the profilux? For example, I have 6 modules that are the old style and I want to send in two to upgrade. Can I run 4 old and 2 new with my profilux II? Thanks!

Matthias
24.02.2010, 10:48
please ask AI this question - I don`t know it

ProfiLux just outputs a command message in old or new format

graha321
24.02.2010, 14:54
I asked AI first, they said to ask you.

aqua_digital
24.02.2010, 14:58
Yes Ai should be answering this as it depends on whether the firmware or communication speed on the Ai side are changed in the upgrade. We have no idea what parts are included in this upgrade

IF the firmware or speed has changed then yes you would have to do this all at the same time becuase in teh GHL software you have to tell the controller whether you are using old or new lamps.

Please refer chris to this thread if required.

I just got back one upgraded module from AI. I plugged it into the other modules and they communicate just fine. Thunderstorm/dimming/clouds/moonphase all seem to work great. Only problem is the new module is much, much, much brighter than the old modules. Guess I'll have to start saving for more upgrades!
